Objectives

1. Bring together individuals and relevant institutions to reflect and debate on the current state of Spanish language use in medical communication and to propose initiatives that will facilitate strengthening of the shared medical language and its usefulness for the entire Spanish-speaking community, while respecting the richness and variety of Spanish in its general and specialized usage.

2. Present the Diccionario panhispánico de términos médicos –a significant and collective project done with the help of the Spanish-speaking medical community– and offer the possibility to other North American institutions to collaborate on this project.

3. Analyze the state of medical vocabulary in distinct Latin American countries and present the challenges of medical communication in these specific contexts, especially in multilingual environments, like the United States.
